Our Values

We took the name of a goddess and of a planet, and we treat it as a working instruction rather than a flourish. Beauty here means proportion that holds and material that improves. Both can be measured. A panel is aligned or it is not. An edge is built in layers or sealed in one. Everything we call beautiful can be pointed at.

Much of what makes a bag expensive to produce is invisible in a photograph. Our quilting is padded from behind rather than pressed from the front, which takes far longer and looks identical online. Our edges are built up by hand in several layers, each left to dry before the next is laid, where a single machined pass would save hours. The difference does not appear in the first year. It appears in the fifth, and again in the fifteenth.

Each shade is produced in a very small series. This costs us economies of scale, shelf presence and a certain kind of growth. It buys the owner a fair expectation of not meeting her own bag across the table.

Much of the language in this industry has the shape of a fact without being one. Our hardware is cast, hand-finished and plated in 18- karat gold in Italy. We say so because it is true and because we can show you where. Where we cannot prove a thing we leave it unwritten, even when it would sell.
