Why Limited Series
Every shade in the Aurea collection is made in a very small series.
There are three reasons and only one of them is romantic.
Arithmetic
Eighteen to thirty hours of work, carried out by one of five artisans from first cut to final inspection, sets a ceiling that no amount of demand can lift.
We can scale the method or keep it.
We kept it, and the size of the series is what remains.
MATERIAL
Each piece is cut from a single skin, and skins do not arrive uniform. A colour developed for us in a small dye lot cannot be repeated with perfect fidelity a year later.
Rather than approximate a shade in order to go on selling it, we make what the lot allows and then we stop
You will recognise
A bag carried by a great many people is a different object from a bag carried by very few, whatever the leather. The woman who chooses Prunelle or Malachite is choosing, in part, not to see it again at the next table. That seems to us a legitimate thing to want.
The cost falls on us. Shades sell out and do not return. We lose the customer who decides six months late. We are asked with some regularity to run a colour again, and we do not.
Each piece carries a number, recorded in our register and repeated on your certificate of authenticity.
