Platinum is a cool metallic with a low, continuous sheen and no glitter anywhere in it. The finish follows the movement of the skin instead of sitting upon it, so the leather keeps its hand. It was developed as the counterweight to Champagne: where that shade warms a room, this one cools it.
A metallic is won or lost on the geometry. Panels are cut by hand and matched for the direction of their lustre before they are aligned along the house line, so the reflection travels unbroken from one facet to the next. The relief is padded from behind and the surface of the leather left unseamed.
Against so cool a tone, the hardware is a deliberate contrast rather than a match. It is made in Italy, cast in solid brass, hand-finished and plated there in 18-karat gold, and engraved with the monogram. The interior follows the same reasoning: brown suede lines the bag throughout, one of the seven chosen against the exterior, so the warmth the outside refuses is waiting within.
